Book of Removal of Impurities
|Topic/Issue:||181 - Hukum of this form of purification -- |
|Imam Shafi, Imam Abu Hanifa||Removal of Impurities is obligatory||The verse 74:4 means to purify from physical raiment.
The hadith of Ibn Abbas (RA) shows it is obligatory as torment relates only to an obligation.
|Imam Malik||It is sunna muakkada||The verse 74:4 is to be taken figuratively to mean purification of the heart
The hadith of Amr bin Maimuin shows that Prophet (SAW) didn't terminate his prayers. The apparent meaning of this is that had the removal of impurities be obligatory, he would have terminated his prayers.
Also the hadith of AbuSaid al-Khudri (RA) shows that had it been obligatory, he wouldn't have continued the prayer
|Imam Malik (another opinion)||It is obligation when remembered and when able to perform but is waived in the case of forgetfulness and the incapacity to perform.||Reconciliation between the hadiths mentioned in the evidences above.|
|Evidences :||1 - Quran [74:4], 2 - Sahih Muslim [# 575], 3 - Sahih Bukhari [# 502], 4 - Sunan Abi Dawud [# 650] [Hide/Show]|
