Opinion FromOpinionExplanation
Imam Malik,Imam Abu Hanifa,Imam AhmadThe latest time is by sunset on the third day of the days of sacrifice. In their view slaughtering has to be undertaken on appointed days, which are the Day of Sacrifice and the following two days. The appointed days mentioned in 22:28 are the day of sacrifice and two days after it. They preferred the indirect indication of the text over narration of Jubayr ibn Mutim and said that there is to be no sacrifice except on these (three) days
Imam ShafiThe time for sacrifice is four days, the Day of Sacrifice and the following three daysThey reconciled the Narration of Jubayr ibn Mutim with the verse 22:28, maintaining that there is no conflict between them as the tradition implies a hukm in addition to the one in the verse and also maintaining that the purpose of the verse, is not to fix the days of slaughter, while the purpose of the tradition is to do so
