|Majority||It is obligated but not recommended||The narration from Umar bin Khattab contains recommendation and not obligation due its incompatibility with the obligation of purification when the intention is to go to sleep, as purification has been prescribed in the law for solemn occasions (rituals) like prayers.
They also argued based on the tradition of Aisha and of Ibn Abbas
Similarly, these jurist hold that ablution is only recommended for eating and drinking when one is in major impurity. Similarly its only recommended when one wishes to repeat intercourse.
